Microbial Accumulation This wall installation brings together approximately one hundred, home-grown, SCOBY pellicles cultivated through successive batches of kombucha. After harvesting them, I dye and preserve the pellicles, allowing differences in thickness, translucency, texture, color, and shape to remain visible. Although the forms appear similar from a distance, each records its own process of growth.
I am interested in what happens when these small differences accumulate. The individual pieces form a larger system, while their placement and shadows give the wall a sense of depth and movement. I continue to grow and collect more pellicles, so the installation has the potential to expand substantially.
